Q. I have a 2 year old and a 6 year old, how high can I safely have their play deck?
A. British Safety standards recommend that play decks for pre school children should be no higher than 3ft and no higher than 5ft for school age children.
Q. Do you provide safety play surfaces and what varieties are there?
A. Yes. We can provide a range of 'Play Barks' which are a safe and cost effective surface material at around £10 - £15 per Squared meter, at a depth of 8cm. We can also supply 'Rubber crumb' which is a setting rubber surface, particularly good for areas where foxes may mess in loose surfaces. This costs around £100 per squared meter.
Q. I've just had my garden landscaped and I don't want a big orange plastic slide in the middle of it!...what natural products and colours to you use?
A. At TreeHouse World we only use natural woods and rope to create our play structures. If you wanted a bright orange slide we could provide one for you! But we tent to favour the natural tones of brown and green to blend in with your garden.
Q. How long will a TreeHouse World. play structure last?
A. All our wood is pressure treated soft wood from sustainable sources, and is guaranteed by the suppliers against rot and decay for 15 years.
Q. Can I take my Play structure with me if I move house?
A. Yes. All of our play structures are concreted 60cm into the ground, so if you move, we could simply saw off the wooden supports at ground level and either re-set it at your new home to sit 60cm lower, or alternatively fix it with 'elephant feet' to an established patio or concrete base.
Q. What type of wood do you use?
A. All wood is pressure treated soft wood from sustainable sources.
Q. Can I add bits on to the tree house as my children get older?
A. Yes. At TreeHouse World we use versatile fixings to allow additional or different play equipment to be fitted at a later date. We also design the structure with future additions in mind, to accommodate different interests as your children grow older.
Q. We have a really sloping garden, can you still build a play structure for us, or do we need to excavate the garden?
A. Yes we can still build for you and No you don't need to excavate! All of our garden structures are supported on machined round supports so we can adjust each support to create our own level.
Q. Can you supply DIY play equipment?
A. Yes. We have a fabulous new, cost effective flat packed tree house which you can build yourself from our easy to follow instructions.
Q. How long will the thatch roof last?
A. This very much depends on the climate and weather conditions but in a normal temperate climate a Live Life Outdoors thatched roof should last between 10 and 20 years.
Q. Is the thatch roof waterproof?
A. Yes. The patented thatching system from South Africa allows rain to simply run off the roof. The 'joins' in the panelling system will be hand thatched by your build team and discrete guttering will be installed at the seams.
Q. Do we need planning permission?...we life in a conservation area?
A. No, but it is always wise to check with local planning regulations prior to a build, especially in conservation areas. Buildings lower than 4m do not usually require planning permission, as long as the structure is more than 1m from a boundary and not in the front garden.
Q. Can I put a heater in my thatched building?
A. Yes. We can spray the whole roof with a fire retardant spray, although unless you have a naked flame next to the roof, there is little necessity. The thatch has natural insulation qualities and a small table top heater can usually warm the whole building in no time.
Q. Where does the thatch come from?
A. We import the thatch from South Africa. Our Panel system comes from Johannesburg and is made of a naturally grown grass.
Q. Do I need to provide a level base/foundation, prior to you installing my
thatched building?
A. No, your Live Life Outdoors International building will be secured with it's own individual concrete foundations around each support pole. Your construction team will do all of this for you.
